Tonekabon is one of the western cities of Mazandaran province. It was formerly called Shahsavar. Located in Royan, an important historic district in Tabarestan, this area was regarded as part of Gilan province. Daryasar Plain
Covering an area of 200000 square meters, Daryasar plain has an altitude of 1800 meters below free sea level. Due to its geographical features and altitude, the climate of the area is cold and favorable in summers.

Falak-Deh Mineral Warm Water Spring
It is located 33Km off Tonekabon, near Lirsarriver, in a village by the same name. Surrounded by broad-leaved forest trees, Falak-Deh mineral warm water spring is very attractive.
Rivers and Waterfalls of Tonekabon
The most important rivers flowing in this city are Cheshmeh-Kileh (in Sehezar district)with a height of80 kilometers, Dohezar with a height of10 kilometers, Chalak-Rood with a height of40 kilometers, Safa-Rood with a height of24 kilometers, Ezarood or Haraz-Rood, Garma-Rood, Nashtarood, Tangeh-Chal, Tirem or Shirood, Valamrood, Tileh-Rood and Mir Shamsed-Din with a height of9 kilometers.Irrigatinga large area of Tonekabon, these rivers flow to the CaspianSea. In addition, there are mountainous lakes and mineral water sprins in this city. The mineral warm water sprins include Falak-Deh in Lirsar district, Miyanrood village and Sehezar (famous as Hazrat-e Solaiman).
Sialan Peak
Sialan is the highest mountain peak in Tonekabon with virgin and unique sceneries on the way up to the mountain. The route from Tonekabon to Sialan passes through the green plains and mountains covered with different plants with beautiful villages. The Sialan Peak is 4600 meters high which represents itself gloriously from a far distance. The time required to reach the peak is about five hours.

Toneka Castle
The castle is located in Tonekabon, Khorram-Abad district, Baladeh, Qal‘eh-Gardan village. According to historical sources, its construction dates back to 6th century AH. In the past, this castle was probably called Qal‘eh Toneka, after which the city of Tonekabon was named. (Registration No. : 3322)
Golich Castle
Located across Goleijan or Cheshmeh-Kileh river, it was made of stone, mortar, fired brick and wood. In the past, Golich was an extensive area and it was the governmental seat of Tonekabon. According to chronicles, the castle dates back to the Sasanid period.
GeranCastle
The remains of the ancient castle of Geran are located on the hills far away the Alborz mountain range, on the eastern edge of Cheshmeh-Kileh river.
Kooti Castle
Located on the western edge of Cheshmeh-Kileh river, the small castle was used as an entrance.
Siyalan Castle
The name of the castle means black and angry mountain. It is located at the end of Dohezar river, near the castle of Khaneh-Ben and the extensive plain of Darya-Sar.
Narges Castle
It is located in the Sehezar district, on a mountain by the same name, near Takht-e Solaiman mineral warm water spring.
Markooh Castle
The remains of the ancient castle of Markooh are located on an isolated mountain between Tonekabon and sakhtsar (the present-day Ramsar). Dating back to the Islamic period, it was one of the tourist attractions in Ramsar.
Sefid-Kooh Castle
The castle has an altitude of 3500 meters above the Caspian Sea level. It is located on the ‘Oliya Eshkevar mountains. There are the remains an ancientfire temple top of the peak.
Khashen-Chal Castle
Khashen-Chal castle is located northeast of Sefid-Kooh mountain. It is a small castle which is not accessed.
Dokhtar Castle
The castle is located opposite Zavat castle, in the same direction of Bahram castle in Bastam city. All of three castles are located on the top of the mountains. There are the remains of Dokhtar castle’s tower, stone rampart and several chambers.
