Historical Graveyard and Tomb Tower of Sefid-Chah

You must travel to the easternmost point in order to see the strangest graveyard in Iran; a graveyard with vertical gray stones and exotic engravings, which is known as the first cemetery of Muslim Iranians. According to the narratives, in the village of Sefid-Chah it had been customary for the gravestone of the dead to be engraved on the basis of their jobs, but after the death of the last surviving engraver of Mosayyeb-Mahalleh, the life of stone engraving too came to an end and the dead would be buried with the current style of stones.

A strange graveyard dating back to 1200 years ago with exotic patterns on its stones is located in Sefid-Chah Village. The grave of Malek Badeleh, the ruler of the north, is located in this graveyard. Ibrahim, Mansour and ‘Abdolrahman, the three sons of Imam Musa-ibn-Ja‘afar (A.S.) and a number of Marashi members who ruled in Amol for a while are buried in Sefid-Chah. The wooden tomb cover of the Emamzadeh which is shining in the heart of this gorgeous valley with its silver dome is 840 years old according to its carvings.

Sefid-Chah which has been called the grave of Haj Jerjis Sefid Jaei, Sefid-Ja, according to one narrative and Espe Chah, Espe Tan and Roobar according to another, is located in a valley between Hezar Jarib Mountains from the ever glorious Alborz Mountain range, in Galoogah. The stone of the altar graves in Sefid-Chah historical graveyard have symbolic Iranian images which depict complicated concepts of life, death and the resurrection.
